The heavy rain pounded the newly-sprouted shoots until they looked like they had wilted and died. The gentle stream that ran by the old, ramshackled barn swelled to overflowing. The air hung heavy like a wet wool blanket over the whole countryside. The people’s hearts hung heavy too. When would this end? How long, Lord, until we are free from this?

Then, suddenly, the rain slowed to tiny droplets. The skies lightened and a thin sliver of blue slowly stretched across the sky. Hope.
